1. My Digital Camera turns off and on or does not work at all?
Please make sure that the batteries are installed properly into the camera and that they are new batteries so as to assure power to the camera. You may want to use our Battery Recharger, it comes with four AA rechargable batteries and plugs into your wall outlet. You can purchase this item from our online store: Adesso.us - Manufacturer Outlet Part No.: SuperMax C-10

2. What resolution do I need for high quality pictures?
For 4 inch by 6 inch pictures, you need at least 0.9 megapixels. For 5x7 prints, you need at least 1.3 megapixels. For 8x10 prints, you need at least 3.0 megapixels. For 8.5x11 prints, you need at least 3.5 megapixels. For putting up pictures on web sites, a 2.0 megapixel camera should be enough.

3. Will my printer be able to handle high-resolution digital photos?
With a relatively new printer, the resolution should not be a concern. However, you should consider a "photo" printer since they are specifically made for printing pictures and are generally considered to produce better pictures. You will need glossy paper and a paper cutter to cut out the pictures (faster and much more accurate than scissors).

4. What is ISO speed?
This setting has been adopted from film cameras. It refers to the film's sensitivity to light. Higher ISO speeds are needed to take pictures in worse lighting conditions, however they also cause an increased amount of noise. 100 ISO is the default. At 400 ISO the noise is easily detectable on most cameras.

5. What is shutter speed?
Shutter speed is the amount of time the shutter allows light onto the CCD. The shutter speed is measured in seconds (or fractions of a second for most common pictures). The slower the shutter speed, the more motion is recorded by the camera. A tripod might be needed to use slower shutter speeds without blurring the picture.

6. What types of storage are used in digital cameras?
Two popular memory card types are CompactFlash™ and SmartMedia™ cards. Most new cameras can accept CompactFlash™ up to 256 or 512 MB or SmartMedia™ cards up to 256 MB. Both types of memory are similar in price and performance but CompactFlash™ cards are more widely used. The type of storage has no effect on picture quality.

7. How many pictures will fit in the memory?
The exact number depends on the size of the memory card (or other type of storage used), the camera's resolution, the compression quality setting, the exact type of camera, and even the type of pictures taken. For example, a 3 megapixel camera might make 0.8 MB pictures at the highest JPEG quality setting, therefore fitting about 160 pictures on a 128 MB card.

8. What is JPEG and TIFF?
Two most popular picture storage formats used by digital cameras are JPEG and TIFF. The JPEG format uses lossy compression (some data judged by the algorithm to be less important to the human viewer is discarded) to achieve small file sizes. The TIFF format uses lossless LZW compression so no information is lost, however the pictures are typically much larger. High-quality JPEG setting is preferable for most uses.

9. What batteries are used in digital cameras?
The flash and the LCD display use a lot of battery power. For this reason most digital cameras need rechargeable batteries. Some cameras come with chargers. Many cameras that take rechargeable NiMH AA batteries can use regular alkaline batteries in an emergency.

10. What is red-eye reduction?
Red-eye effect occurs when the pupils of people's eyes appear to be red in a picture. This effect can be prevented by using the camera's feature of shining the light before a picture is taken, asking the subjects not to look directly at the camera, or using the photo-editing software's red-eye removal feature.

11. What are NiMH batteries?
The NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries are the most popular type of rechargeable batteries used in digital cameras. A higher mAh value (ex. 1700) means a proportionally longer life before the recharge is needed. Most NiMH batteries can be recharged up to 300-1000 times. There is no need to wait for these batteries to be completely discharged before recharging them.

12. What is a shutter lag?
Almost all consumer-level digital cameras suffer from a rather long (about 1 second) delay before the picture is taken after the shutter button is pressed. This is a big problem when taking shots of fast-moving subjects, for example in sports. On many cameras this delay can be reduced by half-pressing the button before the shot to focus the camera on the subject.

13. What is a macro setting?
The macro setting improves the quality of close-up pictures (for example when photographing documents).

14. Do digital cameras have better quality than film cameras?
Newer high-resolution digital cameras (6+ MP) approach and exceed the quality of the 35mm SLR film cameras. Price to quality ratio is still better for film cameras but the digital cameras offer many benefits such as instant previews, no cost to additional photos, computer photo editing, or private printing that film cameras cannot match.

15. Why are the advantages/disadvantages of an LCD screen?
An LCD screen allows you to see how a picture will look before you take it, and even view the picture you just took. Many LCDs also allow you to view all the pictures you've taken so far, sometimes even all at once. This is a very handy feature considering you only have so much room in your camera's memory, so getting rid of poor/unwanted photos frees up more room. The disadvantage of an LCD is battery drainage. If you use the LCD a lot, expect to burn through you batteries quickly. If you have it on all the time, there's a good chance you'll need a recharge or new batteries before you fill up your memory! The good news: you don't need to use it when taking pictures. Almost all cameras come with a traditional viewfinder.

16. What's a webcam?
A webcam is simply a digital camera that captures motion and sometime still images. You can use these to make short video clips to transmit via email or put on the Web, or to even make video phone calls (although image quality over normal phone lines leaves something to be desired). If the camera has a snapshot feature, it can also function as a regular digital camera, although lens quality and resolution tend be more entry level.

17. While installing drivers on XP I have the warning that the software doesn't have the "digital signature"; can this harm my system?
When installing drivers on Windows XP you can have the warning that this software doesn't have the "digital signature" that XP needs to work properly. You have the choice to continue or stop the installation. Click on the "Continue Anyway" button, the installation will not harm or destabilize your system.

27. Why I cannot take a picture even I press the shutter button?
1. Please check power on or off, if it is off, please turn on it.
2. Please check the SD/MMC card space, if the space is not enough, please delete unwanted file or insert a new memory card.
3. Please check the DSC mode and set it to the capture mode.
4. It is possible for the memory card which is end of life, please insert a new memory card.

28. How to download the images to the computer?
Once the USB cable is connected, and the proper driver is installed (Windows 98 users), the camera would serve as an external hard drive. The content of this “extra” hard drive can be examined by click on “My Computer” icon, then follow the path to perform the image operations.

29. What is "White balance"?
The human eye adaptes to changes in light so that white objects still appear white even when the light changes. With cameras, however, the color of the adjustment is called"white balance adjustment". This setting allows you to set the white balance when taking photographs under specific lighting condition.

30. Why the images are blurry?
1. The DSC moves when you press the shutter release button, please hold the DSC steady of use a tripod when taking pictures.
2. The focus brackets are not positioned on the subject, please position the foucus brackets on you subject.
3. Use macro mode to shoot subjects within normal focus, or use normal mode to shoot subjects within macro focus.
4. The flash is low and the flash is off, please use a tripod, open up the aperture, and turn on the flash.
5. The lens is dirty, please clean the lens.

31. How do I maintain the camera?
1. If the lens or LCD monitor surface is dirty, please use a lens brush or soft cloth to wipe clean. Avoid touching them with your fingers. Exercise care to avoid scratching the lens or LCD surface.
2. Do not use any detergent or volatile solution, which will damage the camera case and painted surfaces. Only use a soft cleaning cloth.

32. What is Digital Zoom?
Answer The digital zoom uses the logic IC inside of the digital camera for calculation in order to accomplish the high quality zooming effect similar to that of an optical zoom.

33. What is Optical Zoom?
Optical Zoom uses a system of lens to produce zooming effect, magnifying part of the distant scenery without degradation in image quality. Its magnification ratio is designed the same as the traditional camera, using the lens to magnify the image. Therefore, the resolution and image quality captured by optical zoom will be intact.

34. Is the image stabilization important?
The image stabilization is very important when choosing a camera with a high optical zoom factor (>4). Without this feature, most pictures taken while zooming in, or at longer exposure times, and holding the camera in your hand will be blurred. Note that almost all digital camcorders have image stabilization.
